Crimes Committed by Teenagers These Days

I was alarmed by the news that I happened to watch online and this is with regards to the youths of this generation. In the Philippines, we often heard about natural calamities, oil price hike, the fight of Manny Pacquiao, and the unending saga of putting the previous political figures into investigation for corrupt practices.

But within this week, it was really a wakeup call to pray for. Several incidents happen which is really disturbing because I didn’t expect that at an early age, youths of today will commit crimes such as murder, rape, stealing, cruelty to animals and so much more. Just a few days ago, they talk about these two young teenagers aged 13 and 16 who were gay and the latter killed the lover using a gun inside a mall. They call it a crime of PASSION, but for me, I call it a crime of INSANITY.

Another 12 year old teen raped a 3 year old girl and another youth who killed his mother and sister. Well, I am not surprised about what the Bible talks about in 2 Tim. 3:1-5 “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.”

God has already warned us about the days to come and this is obviously that generation who is disobedient to God. Parents should know how their kids are doing, the way they up bring their child mirrors themselves too. I do believe that if you spare the rod, you spoil the child. It talks about the right discipline that we have to apply for our kids, not to harm them but to correct them. But it is much more important that we raise our kids in accordance to the Word of God and teach them the right path as parents will serve as a good model to their children.

Media also plays a vital role here. Be careful of how your kids waste their time on playing online games which is of no moral value at all particularly if it is obviously showing violence. Students should focus more on their studies rather than plugging into social networking sites. I don’t believe that being a single parent or having a broken family makes a child gone wild. It depends on such individual, if he or she is going to take the challenges of life into a positive outcome.

Now the next question is, Will our government take into consideration to lower the level of age for committed crimes so that these youths will know how to be punished by what they did? Or will we just depend on Social welfare and rehabilitation? What is your take?
